Annual Sailing Symposium Oct 8

This is a required event for all Ship 11 crew members, either as participants or Sea Base Host, or possibly as Trawler Safety Crew. Atttendance will heavily weigh towards your training and general participation record.

Sailing Symposium 2011
San Fernando Valley Yacht Club, in cooperation with the WLACC, is again is sponsoring their annual Sailing Symposium, which we traditionally participate in each year. This event is especially important this year, with us being at the Sea Base with our trawler Tsunami, which will give us an opportunity to highlight it, and possibly function as a committee or safety boat.

Many Boy Scouts, Venture Crews, Mariner and Sea Scouts from around the area take advantage of this excellant training from experienced cruising and racing skippers, as well as the exciting afternoon yacht racing opportunity, where each boat pits their skill and training against the other participants to claim the trophy and bragging rights.

In addition to the comaraderie, this is a great educational and fun opportunity for new crew members, it is a valuable refresher for the "experienced" crew members, and the opportunity to share your knowledge with the rookies.

It is expected that all crew members will be participating in some capacity, whether it be as a student participant, Sea base Host, or possibly as Tsunami Safety Boat Crew. If Tsunami is utilized, this will be a working safety vessel and a small contingent of crew members will be selected accordingly to staff this specific activity.

Remember, this will also fullfill the Ordinary advancement requirement for participation in an official yacht race.
