Sea Scouts in the High Desert?

What better place! It makes it even more special when we take one of our boats on a regular excursion to Marina del Rey or Redondo Beach, to a local lake, or travel to far off exotic ports, such as San Pedro, Catalina, Stockton or the San Francisco Bay.

WHO: Young adults, male and female, ages 14 through 20. WHAT: Sea Scout Ship 11, the SSS-Spartan, is a co-ed BSA Venture/Explorer crew, using a fun, nautical environment to develop ethics and leadership skills. WHEN: Regular crew meetings held on Thursdays at 7pm, include business, training, work experience, rank advancement, and drills. Normally, one outing is scheduled each month.

WHERE: Regular meetings are at the Methodist Church on Ave J near 10^th West in Lancaster, across from DoubleZ. Meetings may be held at our boat yard, or other location to meet the need. Outings and field trip locations are as planned, usually monthly. We participate in 2 major competitions each year; Memorial weekend at the Ventura Naval Base; Thanksgiving weekend at a Northern California base.

WHY: Some crew members join for the leadership experience, camaraderie and fun. Others are preparing for maritime careers or higher education in the marine sciences. The training and experience will benefit them all. Your training and rank advancement may make you eligible for advanced enlistment pay in the Coast Guard or other military service, or preferred admissions to a maritime academy.

Your Commitment:

Recruit initiation to cover uniforms, manual, registration, etc.

Other gear and travel fees may be required. Dues are $10/month.
Regular attendance is required to maintain active membership, achieve rank advancement, and participate in travel activities.
