FUNDRAISING
Ship 11's activiites are supported through a variety of crew and adult coordinated activites. This diversity serves a purpose, mainly to avoid reliance on any one source, which could be a catastrophioc loss! All crew and adult members are expected to participate in maintaining the operational and financial health of the Ship.
DONATIONS
Ship 11's sponsoring body is a qualified 501-C.3 organization, allowing for tax deductible donations to be received to support our capital needs and ongoing operations. Vessels and equipment donations may be kept for operational use, or may be placed for sale, based on need.
GRANTS
Ship 11 is always in search of grant opportunities from foundations, corporate sources, and employer matching or volunteer grants. If you know of one, let us know!
DUES
Crew fund dues are set by the Crew, and is currently at $10 month. Crew dues are collected by the Purser at the first meeting of the month. Dues are $10 monthly. Dues can be waived during the month registration fees are paid, upon request. The crew fund can be used to offset registration and activity fees, and support Ship's operations as necessary.
OTHER FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
Crew dues don't come close to covering the cost of our activities and operations. The Ship's members augment our budget with other fundraising activites. All crew members are expected to participate equally to benefit the Ship, and is a condition for rank advancement. Participation by the crew member and family is tracked in order to give proper credit to participants, and is pro-rated against the fee for various travel and activities, supplemental uniform and equipment items, etc.
Some examples of fundraising activities are:
RECYCLING: Can and bottle recycling is collected the first meeting or the month. Crew members should bring at least one large trash bag of crushed aluminum cans, and/or another of plastic bottles -dry and without lids.
RESTAURANT/FUN-RAISER NIGHT OUT: A Restaraunt Fundraiser or similar activity will be scheduled each month. Each crew member, acting as a Program Manager, is expected to organize an event, coordinated through the Purser and Program Mate, with the Yoeman assisting with publicity.
The idea is to get others in the community to participate; encourage our friends and family and others to help support the Ship. If it is on a meeting night, we will have an abbreviated meeting at the site.
TNOTS - THURSDAY NIGHT ON THE SQUARE: A major fundraising event, TNOTS runs throught the summer on Thursday evenings, at Palmdale's Poncitlan Square, and will take the place of our normal crew meeting night.
AV YOUTH MARITIME ASSOCIATION: This is our independant sponsorhip and fundraising organization. Its primary purpose is to support our ship.
Attendance and participation at meetings, outings, work details, fundraising and other activities, and maintenance of dues, is required to maintain membership in good standing. It is tracked, and will be taken into consideration when selecting crew members for future special events, subsidized activities and cruises, rank advancement, and for ongoing membership and consideration at re-charter.
